ABSTRACT

China's shale gas production in 2020 exceeds 200 × 108 m³, which creates a miracle in the history of natural gas development in China. The Sichuan Basin has already been and will be the main battlefield of shale gas exploration and development in China. In order to further promote the large-scale efficient development of shale gas in China, under the new situation of global COVID-19 spread and domestic “carbon peak and carbon neutrality” goal, this paper analyzes the progress and challenges of shale gas exploration and development in the Sichuan Basin from four aspects, including resource exploration, gas reservoir engineering, drilling and production engineering and industry regulation, and puts forward countermeasures and suggestions for achieving large-scale efficient development of shale gas. The following research results are obtained: First, the large-scale efficient development of shale gas in the Sichuan Basin has to take the sustainable and stable production of middle–shallow shale gas and the large-scale productivity construction of deep shale gas as the base. Second, compared with the shale gas exploration and development in the North America, the Sichuan Basin has its own characteristics in terms of geographical setting, geological condition, drilling and production technology and industry regulation, which makes it difficult to copy the development pattern of large scale, high density and continuous well deployment from the North America, so it is necessary to adopt the strategy of “high production with few wells”. On the one hand, continue to apply the geology and engineering integration technology to carry out “integrated research, integrated design, integrated implementation and integrated iteration” in the whole life cycle of shale gas well;and on the other hand, carry out problem-oriented continuous researches from the aspects of geological evaluation, development policy, engineering technology and industry regulation, so as to improve geological evaluation theory and technology, innovate gas reservoir engineering theory and method, research and develop engineering technology for cost reduction and efficiency improvement, improve shale gas industry regulation, and form a new pattern of collaborative promotion of technical and non-technical elements. In conclusion, the research results provide important reference and guidance for the large-scale efficient development of shale gas in the Sichuan Basin and even the whole country.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: We aimed to analyze clinical characteristics and find potential factors to predict poor prognosis in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). METHODS: We analyzed the clinical characteristics and laboratory tests of COVID-19 patients and detected SARS-CoV-2 RNA in urine sediments collected from 53 COVID-19 patients enrolled in Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University from 31 January 2020 to 18 February 2020 with qRT-PCR analysis. Then, we classified those patients based on clinical conditions (severe or non-severe syndrome) and urinary SARS-CoV-2 RNA (URNA- or URNA+). RESULTS: We found that COVID-19 patients with severe syndrome (severe patients) showed significantly higher positive rate (11 of 23, 47.8%) of urinary SARS-CoV-2 RNA than non-severe patients (4 of 30, 13.3%, p = 0.006). URNA+ patients or severe URNA+ subgroup exhibited higher prevalence of inflammation and immune discord, cardiovascular diseases, liver damage and renal dysfunction, and higher risk of death than URNA- patients. To understand the potential mechanisms underlying the viral urine shedding, we performed renal histopathological analysis on postmortems of patients with COVID-19 and found severe renal vascular endothelium lesion characterized by an increase of the expression of thrombomodulin and von Willebrand factor, markers to assess the endothelium dysfunction. We proposed a theoretical and mathematic model to depict the potential factors that determine the urine shedding of SARS-CoV-2. CONCLUSIONS: This study indicated that urinary SARS-CoV-2 RNA detected in urine specimens can be used to predict the progression and prognosis of COVID-19 severity.

ABSTRACT

Presently, in the context of the novel coronavirus pneumonia epidemic, several antibiotics are overused in hospitals, causing heavy pressure on the hospital's wastewater treatment process. Therefore, developing stable, safe, and efficient hospital wastewater treatment equipment is crucial. Herein, a bench-scale electrooxidation equipment for hospital wastewater was used to evaluate the removal effect of the main antibiotic levofloxacin (LVX) in hospital wastewater using response surface methodology (RSM). During the degradation process, the influence of the following five factors on total organic carbon (TOC) removal was discussed and the best reaction condition was obtained: current density, initial pH, flow rate, chloride ion concentration, and reaction time of 39.6 A/m2, 6.5, 50 mL/min, 4‱, and 120 min, respectively. The TOC removal could reach 41% after a reaction time of 120 min, which was consistent with the result predicted by the response surface (40.48%). Moreover, the morphology and properties of the electrode were analyzed. The degradation pathway of LVX was analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS). Subsequently, the bench-scale electrooxidation equipment was changed into onboard-scale electrooxidation equipment, and the onboard-scale equipment was promoted to several hospitals in Dalian.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Many studies have revealed several risk factors associated with the prognosis of patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), but the risk factors associated with death in critically ill COVID-19 patients still needs to be fully elucidated. Therefore, we analyzed clinical characteristics and laboratory data of ICU patients to identify risk factors associated with COVID-19 death. METHODS: Patients with COVID-19 from the ICU in the Sino-French New City Branch of Tongji Hospital Wuhan, China, between February 4 and February 29, 2020, were enrolled in this study. The final date of follow-up was April 4, 2020. Clinical manifestations, laboratory tests, treatment, and outcome of participants before and during the ICU stay were retrospectively collected and analyzed. RESULTS: A total of 92 patients were admitted or transferred to the ICU from February 4 to February 29, 2020. Compared to survivors, the majority of non-survivors (73.8%) presented with dyspnea. A random forest classifier and ROC curve were used to develop a predictive model. IL-6, D-dimer, lymphocytes, and albumin achieved good performance with AUCs of 0.9476, 0.9165, 0.8994, and 0.9251, respectively, which were consistent with clinical observations, such as inflammation, lymphopenia, and coagulation dysfunction. Combining IL-6 and D-dimer improved the performance of this model with an excellent AUC (0.997). CONCLUSIONS: Mortality in COVID-19 was not rare in critically ill patients. The model that combined IL-6 and D-dimer was valuable for predicting the mortality of patients with COVID-19 with excellent performance. This model needs to be further optimized by adding more indicators and then evaluated with a multicenter study.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this case report is to describe the imaging and associated clinical features of an asymptomatic novel coronavirus pneumonia (COVID-19) patient outside Wuhan, China. The principle findings are that in this patient with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19, CT findings preceded symptoms and included bilateral pleural effusions, previously not reported in association with COVID-19. The role of this case report is promotion of potential recognition amongst radiologists of this new disease, which has been declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organization (WHO).
